Rain World, the atmospheric survival platformer from Videocult, is set to receive a definitive release on Nintendo Switch 2 with the upcoming Anthology Edition. The announcement was made during Akupara Games' first developer showcase, which also detailed physical releases and updates for other independent titles.
Rain World blends cinematic puzzle-platforming reminiscent of Limbo with survival mechanics. Players control a slugcat navigating a post-apocalyptic world, tasked with finding food, evading predators, and reaching hibernation zones before a deadly rain cycle begins. The game's challenging nature and pervasive tension have cultivated a dedicated following, cementing its status as a cult classic.
The Anthology Edition will bundle the base game with its two expansions, Downpour and The Watcher, for a physical release on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. Notably, the collection will also be available on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, offering a physical edition on the new hardware.
Akupara Games is collaborating with Serenity Forge to produce both a standard edition, featuring an embossed slip cover, and a Collector's Edition. The premium version will include an art book, a scarf, a keychain, a standee, a sticker sheet, and the game's soundtrack.
Beyond Rain World, the Akupara Direct showcase revealed other upcoming projects. Videocult confirmed that its next game, Airframe Ultra, is slated for release on November 5. Developers Paul Hart and Lee Williams of Cryptmaster announced Bonespire, a crafting simulation game set within a wizard's tower. Additionally, the retro platformer Aokaki and a desktop companion app called Working with Montabi were revealed.
The showcase also provided updates on previously announced games. The second episode of Kumitantei: Old Slaughter is scheduled to launch on Steam on November 12, and new details, including a trailer and demo, were shared for The Darkside Detective: Backside of the Moon.
