Daenerys Targaryen, a central figure from HBO's Game of Thrones, will be making a playable return in the upcoming real-time strategy game, Game of Thrones: War for Westeros. Developed by Playside Studios, the game was recently showcased in a trailer at Gamescom Opening Night Live, offering players a glimpse at its large-scale battles and confirming several prominent characters who will serve as army leaders. Alongside familiar faces like Jon Snow, Robb Stark, and Jaime Lannister, the trailer revealed Daenerys, modeled after Emilia Clarke's portrayal, and the Night King as potential commanders.

War for Westeros appears to incorporate a victory condition where the winning player's chosen leader claims the Iron Throne. This feature could offer a form of narrative wish fulfillment, particularly for characters whose bids for the throne were complicated in the television series' later seasons. Daenerys' own path to the throne famously ended with her death shortly before she could claim it, and her dragon Drogon subsequently melted the throne.

Although the flagship Game of Thrones television series concluded in 2019, the franchise continues to expand. HBO has aired seasons of its prequel series, House of the Dragon, which explores the Targaryen dynasty, and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, based on George R.R. Martin's novellas. House of the Dragon is expected to conclude its run with a fourth season in 2028, while A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is slated for a second season in 2027. A stage production, Game of Thrones: The Mad King, also premiered recently and is scheduled for a West End transfer next year. Additionally, Warner Bros. Pictures is developing a film based on the "Aegon's Conquest" storyline from Martin's Fire & Blood.

Game of Thrones: War for Westeros is scheduled to debut in 2027, aiming to keep the legacy of characters from Daenerys' era alive in interactive form.
