Darrington Press has unveiled an ambitious three-year content roadmap for its tabletop role-playing game, Daggerheart, during a significant panel at Gen Con. The announcements signal a strong commitment to positioning Daggerheart as a substantial competitor to established games like Dungeons & Dragons and Pathfinder, with new expansions, digital integrations, and a slate of actual-play series.
The Daggerheart open beta, which began in March 2024, has set the stage for the game's official release in May 2025. Ahead of this, the first expansion, Daggerheart: Hope & Fear, is slated for an early release in August, followed by a wider September debut. This expansion is set to introduce new classes, subclasses, and ancestries.
Darrington Press outlined a consistent release schedule, with two major product drops per year. These releases will encompass new settings, campaigns, adventures, and expansions, supplemented by accessories and digital content. The Romantasy Campaign Frame is expected this fall, alongside free digital resources on the Daggerheart website. The next wave of adventure content will arrive in August.
A significant development for Daggerheart is its upcoming integration with Foundry Virtual Tabletop. The platform, a popular tool for online tabletop play, will offer premium content for both the Daggerheart Core rulebook and the Hope & Fear expansion, available for purchase and download through Foundry's repository.
Fans can also anticipate a range of official Daggerheart accessories. A highly anticipated Game Master screen, featuring a dedicated space for fear tokens, is planned for a November release. This will be accompanied by Fear Trackers for GMs and an adversary deck to manage enemy capabilities. These items are scheduled to launch first through Critical Role and Darrington Press Guild stores, with broader availability at local game stores shortly after.
Further content will come through collaborations, including a partnership with Roll & Play Press's One-Shot Wonders. This collaboration will yield over 100 new adventures compatible with both the Daggerheart Core Set and the Hope & Fear expansion. A Kickstarter for the One-Shot Wonders: Daggerheart pack is planned for this fall, with a free sample one-shot available via sign-up.
Critical Role is expanding its actual-play offerings for Daggerheart. A new miniseries, Reign of the Weredragon, will be helmed by Chris Perkins, Darrington Press's creative director, and is set in a world designed for the Hope & Fear expansion. Additionally, Bards of New York will launch Voltaire's Aces, a miniseries set in the Regolus Prime setting, drawing inspiration from heist and ensemble action films.
In a notable shift, the long-running actual-play series Acquisitions Incorporated, created by Penny Arcade's Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik, has officially transitioned from Dungeons & Dragons to Daggerheart. New installments will feature GM Chris Perkins at PAX West, including the wedding of Jim Darkmagic, and GM Jeremy Crawford will launch a new season at PAX Unplugged. Both series will be available on Critical Role's streaming platform, Beacon, as video-on-demand content.
