American Caper, the crime fiction comic series from Absurd Ventures co-founder Dan Houser, is set to conclude its initial arc with a double-sized 12th issue arriving November 11, 2026. The finale will mark the end of the story's time in Wyoming, with a new story arc planned to begin in a different state a few months later.
Dan Houser, also known for his extensive work on Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption series, revealed the news alongside producer and contributing writer Lazlow during an appearance on IGN's live show. The upcoming issue promises a chaotic conclusion to the Verona, Wyoming storyline. The synopsis details Marty's party turning into a family affair with unwelcome guests, Orson confessing truths to Eliza, Marnie seeking revenge, Eva confronting a cartel assassin, and Dre BK attempting to maintain calm amidst firefights and hallucinations.
The double-sized issue, published by Dark Horse Comics under Houser's Absurd Ventures banner, will feature 44 pages of story. The creative team for the finale includes series cover artist Tyler Boss, with variant covers by Becky Cloonan and Caroline Cash. Cloonan expressed her admiration for David Lapham's work, which influenced her approach to her variant cover, aiming for a surreal and absurdist vibe that parallels the comic's tone.
For new readers, Absurd Ventures recently released the first collected volume of the series, titled Red-Pilled Blues, which gathers the initial four issues. The series is described as a gritty satire, with editor Shelly Bond drawing parallels between American Caper and "The Great Muppet Caper," highlighting its unique blend of tones.
