Spike Chunsoft has announced that Danganronpa 2x2, a remaster of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, has been delayed to early 2027. The studio confirmed the shift from its previously planned 2026 release window in a statement from producer Shohei Sakakibara.

While Spike Chunsoft did not provide a specific reason for the delay, Sakakibara indicated that the move is intended to ensure the best possible player experience. "We are continuing to work to bring you the best possible experience," he stated. "We sincerely appreciate your patience as development continues, and we look forward to sharing further updates with you soon."

In conjunction with the delay, Spike Chunsoft also offered the first details on a new feature called Slayhem Mode. This mode will present a revised version of the original 2012 experience, featuring a "completely different storyline" with new victims, culprits, and tricks. Slayhem Mode is expected to include approximately 20% more content than the game's original mode, and both story options will be accessible from the start of the game.

The upcoming release will also feature a 3D world map, replacing the side-scrolling map of the original game, and updated character portraits. Danganronpa 2x2 is still on track to launch for PC, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
