Spike Chunsoft used its Anime Expo 2026 panel to share updates on upcoming titles, including the remake of Danganronpa 2, now subtitled Danganronpa 2x2. The remake, which includes a significant new scenario, has been delayed from its previously planned 2026 release to early 2027. Series creator Kazutaka Kodaka, who collaborated on the new content, humorously suggested that fans concerned about the delay could play Grand Theft Auto VI or other titles to pass the time.
Danganronpa 2x2 Details
The expanded remake of the PlayStation Portable and Vita classic features a graphical overhaul and gameplay adjustments, including a revamped world map. The primary addition is the "Slayhem Scenario," a new story written in collaboration with Kodaka, which is approximately 20 percent longer than the original game's narrative. While available from the start, the development team recommends playing the original story first, as the Slayhem Scenario is considered the central focus of the Danganronpa 2x2 project. The new scenario was inspired by how Resident Evil 2 introduced its cast.
Steins;Gate Re:Boot and Other Announcements
Alongside the Danganronpa news, Spike Chunsoft also provided details on Steins;Gate Re:Boot. This remake incorporates redrawn art and new animated character portraits, building upon the foundation of Steins;Gate Elite, which replaced original art with animation clips from the anime adaptation. Re:Boot includes some excised text from the Elite release, along with a new scenario centered on the character Kiryu Moeka, expanding the game's lore. An additional announcement for Steins;Gate Octet of Shifting Space, an epilogue presented with a Japanese retro PC aesthetic, was also made. The company explicitly stated that Steins;Gate Re:Boot was not developed using AI, a detail that was met with applause from the audience. The panel also touched upon Monokuma's design origins, described as a fusion of a teddy bear with an image of Spider-Man and Venom in cross-section.
