Lucasfilm President Dave Filoni has confirmed that Disney is not currently developing the scrapped Star Wars movie, "The Hunt for Ben Solo." The statement comes amidst ongoing fan demand for the project, which would have continued the story of Adam Driver's Kylo Ren.
During a press line at D23 2026, Filoni acknowledged the persistent fan interest. "You know, someone was going to ask me that in this line," he told Variety with a smile. "I'm surprised it took this long, so that's really cool." He then clarified, "We're not making that picture right now. That's all I can say."
To Deadline, Filoni echoed this sentiment, stating, "It’s not here, you won’t find it here. The force is not with us in that regard; I love the love you feel for it."
The project, reportedly titled "The Hunt for Ben Solo," was revealed last October by Adam Driver. He stated that he and director Steven Soderbergh had worked on the film for two years before Disney halted its development. Soderbergh had previously described the decision to scrap the movie as "insane," noting that the studio had received "two and a half years of free work" from him, Driver, and screenwriter Rebecca Blunt. When asked in April about the possibility of the film being revived, Soderbergh expressed little hope, telling The Playlist, "If it was gonna happen, it would have happened. It's that simple."
Even former Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy had praised the script for "The Hunt for Ben Solo" as "great." However, this did not prevent Disney from shelving the film. Fan enthusiasm for the movie has intensified, particularly after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker concluded Kylo Ren's story. Efforts to revive the project have included fan campaigns, such as flying a "Save The Hunt for Ben Solo" banner over Walt Disney Studios.
While Filoni's remarks indicate the film is not currently a priority, his awareness of the fan desire suggests that Lucasfilm is cognizant of the demand. The Star Wars franchise continues to expand with upcoming projects, including "Ahsoka" Season 2 slated for a January 2027 release and the newly revealed "Star Wars: Starfighter" film set for 2027.
