Dead or Alive 6: Last Round, which launched on June 24, has drawn criticism on Steam due to a perceived lack of new content and the decision to make players repurchase certain downloadable content.
While many DLC items purchased for the original Dead or Alive 6 are transferable to the new Last Round edition, which is available in both free and $40 versions, this does not extend to all content. Specifically, DLC related to The King of Fighters crossover characters, such as Mai Shiranui and Kula Diamond, must be repurchased. This applies even to the premium $40 version of Last Round. Players who previously spent money on these characters and their associated costume packs will need to buy them again, regardless of their prior investment.
Adding to player frustration, Koei Tecmo has also increased the price of both these characters and their DLC costumes. The "Unlock Key" for each character has risen from $8 to $11, and the bundles containing Mai and Kula along with their costumes now cost $21, up from $16. This price hike further exacerbates the issue of having to repurchase content.
Even after investing $40 in the Last Round version of the game, players face an additional $42 charge to regain access to DLC they may have already purchased. This situation has been met with dissatisfaction from the game's community. As of now, Koei Tecmo has not announced any plans to reduce the prices for Mai and Kula's DLC.
Dead or Alive 6: Last Round is currently available for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Separately, a new installment in the Dead or Alive series is reportedly in development.
