CD Projekt and Blizzard have unveiled a Geralt-themed skin for the Barbarian class in Diablo 4, but access to the cosmetic is tied to pre-ordering the upcoming expansion for The Witcher 3, Songs of the Past, exclusively on Battle.net. This requirement has drawn criticism from players who own The Witcher 3 on platforms other than Blizzard's launcher, as they will need to purchase the expansion via Battle.net to obtain the skin.

The reveal occurred during BlizzCon 2026 on the 30 Years of Battle.net panel, where CD Projekt representatives showcased the Geralt skin. The expansion is currently available for wishlist on Battle.net, with pre-purchases unlocking the skin. Players who own The Witcher 3 on platforms like Steam will not be eligible for the skin if they purchase Songs of the Past on Steam when it launches on September 29, 2026. The Witcher 3 Remastered is set to receive a free upgrade on Steam for existing owners of the base game on that date.

Players have expressed frustration online, with some stating they are unwilling to purchase a second copy of The Witcher 3 on Battle.net solely for the Diablo 4 skin. Comments also noted dissatisfaction with the perceived appearance of Geralt's face in promotional material, with some hoping the skin might be sold separately in the future.

The Geralt skin's availability also comes amidst community disappointment following Blizzard's confirmation that Diablo 4 will not receive any further expansions. Diablo game director Brent Gibson stated that the team's focus is shifting towards Diablo 4's seasonal content and the development of Diablo 5, which is slated for release in 2029. The narrative focus for Diablo 4 has concluded with the "Story of Hatred," and the series will move towards the "Story of Terror."

Level Design Lead Miles Tost described the creative process behind the collaboration, aiming to blend elements from both The Witcher and Diablo universes respectfully. The Barbarian class was identified as a natural fit due to its emphasis on physical prowess and mastery of melee combat, drawing parallels to Geralt's own abilities. The design incorporates elements of Geralt's iconic Kaer Morhen armor, blended with Barbarian aesthetics like fur detailing, to create a cohesive look within the Diablo universe of Sanctuary.

CD Projekt has indicated that more Witcher-themed content is planned for Diablo 4 in 2027, with further details to be announced later. This Geralt skin marks the initial wave of such content. In related news, CD Projekt's Cyberpunk 2077 and its expansion Phantom Liberty are also coming to Battle.net later this year. Additionally, Blizzard's Overwatch will feature Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and Edgerunners 2-themed content in 2027, coinciding with the premiere of the animated sequel series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 on Netflix on October 20.
