Blizzard has officially announced Diablo 5, with the next mainline entry in the action RPG series slated for a Spring 2029 release. This reveal came during the opening ceremony of BlizzCon 2026.

Diablo 5 will present a significant departure from previous titles by taking place after an apocalyptic event has already occurred. The game is set a century after the events of Diablo 4, in a world known as Sanctuary where Diablo has already achieved victory and its heroes have been defeated. "Sanctuary has fallen. Diablo won," Blizzard stated.

A panel at BlizzCon 2026, led by Blizzard president Johanna Faries and the Diablo 5 development team, provided an early glimpse into the game's setting, playable classes, and overall creative direction. The lineup will include two returning classes: the Demon Hunter and the Monk. A new class, the Plague Knight, was also confirmed. However, specific details regarding core gameplay mechanics, progression systems, and how these elements will manifest in actual gameplay remain scarce.

In addition to the game announcement, Blizzard also confirmed that a Diablo animated series is in development in partnership with Netflix. Limited details were provided for the series, but a description teases, "Sanctuary's darkness is spreading. Blizzard and Netflix are developing a new animated series set in the world of Diablo, bringing the franchise to a new screen. We'll have more to share as the series takes shape. Until then, stay awhile... and stay tuned."

The Diablo franchise, first released in 1996, has reached over 130 million players worldwide and is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.
