Dokimon Quest, a turn-based monster-taming RPG, is currently available to claim for free on Steam. Developed by Yanako RPGs, the game is inspired by the era of the Game Boy Color and offers a fresh take on the creature-collecting genre. Players have until August 26 at 10 a.m. PDT to add the title to their libraries, after which it will remain theirs permanently.
The game follows a young trainer on a quest to find a missing childhood friend. Along the way, players will capture, train, and battle with over 140 original monsters. The adventure unfolds across an open world featuring towns, caves, shrines, seas, and mountains, with a main story expected to take between 15 and 20 hours to complete. Gameplay includes turn-based battles against rival rangers and opposing corporations, as well as direct overworld encounters with monsters. Rare creatures and alternate color variations become available for hunting after the main story concludes.
Dokimon Quest incorporates several modern quality-of-life features not present in early monster-taming titles, such as accelerated battles, optional combat assistance, and a quest log. Players can choose between 8-bit and piano arrangements for the soundtrack, select from nine playable characters, and customize the game's visual aesthetic with over 20 retro color palettes. Since its release in 2024, Dokimon Quest has garnered "Mostly Positive" reviews on Steam, with approximately 75% of players recommending it. Yanako RPGs is also reportedly developing a sequel, Dokimon: Quest 2, though no release date has been announced.
