Capcom is developing a hard mode for Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, addressing a frequently requested feature from players. The announcement came during a Q&A session with director Kento Kinoshita and producer Naoto Oyama, as detailed on the game's official Steam page.

Kinoshita stated that the team is working on a hard mode specifically designed to offer a significant challenge for players who have reached or are nearing the level cap. He also indicated that the new expansion content itself is being designed with an increased level of difficulty compared to the base game. Producer Oyama further teased that more information regarding a release window for this hard mode will be shared at a later date.

While Capcom had previously hinted at the possibility of a hard mode for Dark Arisen, this confirmation provides the first concrete details. The timing of the release window announcement remains unclear, with Oyama's vagueness potentially suggesting that the hard mode might not launch simultaneously with Dark Arisen. However, one perspective is that Capcom could release the feature prior to the expansion's launch, allowing players to prepare for the new content. It is still uncertain whether the hard mode will be applicable to the original game or exclusively to the new content within Dark Arisen.

Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is set to introduce various quality-of-life improvements and new narrative content to the original 2024 action RPG. Capcom has already confirmed adjustments to controversial mechanics such as Dragonsplague and fast-travel systems. The central new addition will be the exploration of a new region, Norgan, and the accompanying Forsaken Dominion storyline.

Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is scheduled for release on October 9, 2026, across Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
