A new free tool called Dustpile aims to help players conquer their ever-growing Steam game backlogs by functioning as a dating app for their digital libraries. Created by X user tolgatr0n from Dumbbell Games, Dustpile allows users to load their Steam library and select criteria, such as playtime, to filter which games are presented.

Users are shown their eligible Steam games one by one, presented as virtual cards. Similar to dating apps, players can swipe left (press X) to pass on a game or swipe right (press the heart icon) to add it to a curated list of potential next plays. Each card displays information including Steam tags, a brief summary, estimated completion time, and top user reviews.

Dustpile offers different sorting options to aid decision-making. The "smart order" feature arranges games based on genre preference and ratings, while "I'm feeling lucky" randomly selects a single game. Beyond just the backlog, the tool can also be used to sift through a Steam wishlist to find potential new purchases, though users should verify release dates as it does not filter out unreleased titles. Additionally, Dustpile can filter for co-op games that both the user and a friend already own, facilitating multiplayer sessions.

Once a selection of games has been "liked," Dustpile provides features to further refine the choice. Players can enter "face-off" mode, which sets up a knockout bracket to determine a definitive favorite among the selected titles. Alternatively, users can opt to rank their liked games in a tier list or export the final list as a JSON or CSV file for external use.
