Techland has officially canceled the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of its recent release, Dying Light: The Beast. The developer announced the decision via a statement on X, formerly Twitter, explaining that the game was designed to leverage the capabilities of current-generation hardware and could not be adequately adapted for older consoles.
In its statement, Techland elaborated that Dying Light: The Beast was built "from the ground up to take full advantage of current-generation hardware." The game's demanding open world, advanced visuals, and fluid combat and traversal systems rely on processing power and memory that previous-generation consoles cannot provide. The developer concluded that bringing the game to PS4 and Xbox One would have necessitated compromises that would detract from the intended player experience. "This was not a matter of choosing to leave those platforms behind," Techland stated. "Rather, it reflected the technical realities of development and our commitment to delivering the best possible experience."
Players who had intended to purchase Dying Light: The Beast on PS4 or Xbox One are eligible for a refund. The game, which features the return of protagonist Kyle Crane with new genetic mutations granting special powers, was originally released on September 19, 2025, for current consoles and PC. Techland recently released a new edition called Restored Land, which includes a persistent survival mode and all previously available content.
