EA has publicly addressed the recent leak of gameplay footage from its upcoming Iron Man title, admitting the incident was not part of the development studio's plan. The developer's official Marvel's Iron Man social media account posted a statement acknowledging the leak.
"Well, that didn't go as planned," the statement read, continuing, "But now you know, and we've got a lot more to show you. See you when we’re ready."
The leaked footage, which reportedly originated from an "Aug26 test" build, offered a glimpse of approximately two and a half minutes of gameplay. Reports suggest the footage showcased the player character navigating an open-world environment and engaging in both aerial and on-foot combat, with seamless transitions between the two.
Development on EA Motive's Iron Man game has been ongoing for four years, with limited official information shared publicly. This project is separate from another Marvel game at EA, a Black Panther title, which was reportedly canceled. The gaming landscape has seen other Iron Man game attempts in the past, including a project by Just Cause developer Avalanche around 2012, which also suffered a footage leak.
Players also encountered Iron Man in Square Enix's 2020 Marvel's Avengers game, which did not achieve the same critical reception as its Guardians of the Galaxy counterpart released the following year.
