Electronic Arts has launched a substantial collection of 25 classic PC games across Steam, GOG, and its own EA App. This release includes seven remastered titles, primarily from the Wing Commander series, alongside other enduring classics.
Seven games have received "Anniversary Edition" updates designed to preserve the original experience while improving compatibility with modern systems. These include:
- Road Rash: 30th Anniversary Edition
- Wing Commander: 35th Anniversary Edition
- Wing Commander II: Vengeance of the Kilrathi: 35th Anniversary Edition
- Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger: 30th Anniversary Edition
- Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom: 30th Anniversary Edition
- Wing Commander Prophecy: 30th Anniversary Edition
- Privateer 2: The Darkening: 30th Anniversary Edition
EA stated that these Anniversary Editions maintain the games' original aesthetics and intent, incorporating quality-of-life enhancements for controls, performance, and approachability without sacrificing authenticity. The remasters were made possible by the recovery of a physical media vault containing numerous Betacam, VHS, and D1 tapes, which yielded the previously lost Master FMV sequences for these titles. Over 1,500 cinematic scenes have been meticulously re-edited for these updated versions.
In addition to the remasters, the release features several other classic EA titles, including:
- Wing Commander: Privateer
- Wing Commander: Academy
- Wing Commander: Armada
- Strike Commander
- Theme Hospital
- Crusader: No Remorse
- Crusader: No Regret
- Ultima I: The First Age of Darkness
- Ultima II: The Revenge of the Enchantress
- Ultima III: Exodus
- Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar
- Ultima V: Warriors of Destiny
- Ultima VI: The False Prophet
- Ultima VII: The Complete Edition
- Ultima VIII: Gold Edition
- Ultima IX: Ascension
- Ultima Underworld I
- Ultima Underworld II
For users on GOG, the newly added content primarily consists of the remasters, as many of the other classic titles have been available on the platform for some time. Steam users, however, receive the full suite of 25 games. The EA App also hosts the entire collection. The release marks a significant effort in preserving and reintroducing these foundational PC gaming experiences to contemporary audiences.
