The enduring collaboration between LEGO and Nintendo, two titans of family entertainment, has resulted in a substantial library of games on Nintendo's hybrid consoles. Since the first LEGO game, LEGO Racers, debuted on the N64 in 1999, a LEGO title has appeared on a Nintendo platform almost every year, with LEGO-themed sets following suit starting in 2020. This synergy has continued into the Nintendo Switch era, and as of 2026, 19 distinct LEGO games have been released for the Switch and its successor, the Switch 2.
LEGO Games on Nintendo Switch (2017-2026)
The journey began in April 2017 with LEGO City Undercover, an original LEGO title that originally launched on the Wii U in 2013. This action-adventure game follows an undercover police officer and is based on the LEGO City line of building sets.
Later in 2017, LEGO Worlds arrived, offering a more authentic LEGO experience by eschewing the typical action-adventure format for a sandbox environment akin to Minecraft. Players can construct environments and structures brick by brick.
Also released in 2017 was The LEGO Ninjago Movie Video Game, an adaptation of the film based on LEGO's Ninjago toy line. This action-adventure game features eight locations and characters pulled directly from the movie.
LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 followed in 2017, bringing together characters and locales from Marvel comics and movies. It's a sequel that pits players against the time-traveling villain Kang the Conqueror. The first LEGO Marvel Super Heroes game, originally released in 2013, was eventually ported to the Switch in 2021.
In 2018, LEGO DC Super-Villains debuted. This title focuses on the antagonists of DC Comics, such as The Joker and Lex Luthor, who must confront an internal threat while dealing with a mysterious Justice Syndicate. It is notable as the first LEGO game to allow players to create their own characters.
2019 saw the release of The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame, a tie-in that blended action-adventure gameplay with the building mechanics introduced in LEGO Worlds, though it was criticized for a lack of originality.
LEGO Jurassic World, originally released in 2015, arrived on Switch in 2019. Its 20-level campaign covers key moments from the first four Jurassic Park and Jurassic World films, and players can unlock characters, including directors Steven Spielberg and Colin Trevorrow.
LEGO Builder's Journey, initially released on Apple Arcade in 2019, came to Switch in 2021. This puzzle-focused game tells a father-son story through its intricately designed geometric puzzles.
Also in 2021, LEGO Marvel Superheroes made its way to the Switch. This game features an original story with iconic Marvel heroes like Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Captain America confronting Doctor Doom and Loki.
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga launched in 2022, offering a comprehensive take on all nine Skywalker Saga films. It boasts over 300 playable characters, 23 planets, and 100 vehicles, and features a tighter, over-the-shoulder camera perspective compared to previous LEGO titles.
LEGO Brawls, released in 2022, is a fighting game inspired by Super Smash Bros. Originally available on Apple Arcade, it features over 100 minifigures from various LEGO themes.
LEGO Bricktales, another 2022 release, is an original puzzle-adventure game from ClockStone Studio, known for the Bridge Constructor series. It presents players with dioramas set in diverse environments like jungles, cities, and medieval castles.
LEGO 2K Drive arrived in 2023. Developed by Visual Concepts, this racing game is set in the open world of Bricklandia and includes street, off-road, and water races, along with a robust car-builder.
Looking ahead, LEGO Voyagers is scheduled for a 2025 release. This two-player cooperative adventure was praised for its puzzles and world design, offering a fun experience for pairs.
Also slated for 2025 is LEGO Party, a party game inspired by titles like Mario Party. It promises creative, colorful, and humorous gameplay with 60 minigames drawn from themes like Ninjago and Pirates.
As the Nintendo Switch 2 era begins, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is set to launch in 2026. This title will be exclusive to the Switch 2 and next-generation consoles, offering an open-world Gotham and a humorous take on Batman's cinematic and video game history.
