Playground Games has unveiled the PC system requirements for the upcoming Fable title, slated for release on February 23 next year. The specifications suggest a relatively accessible entry point for players, though the consistent target of 30 frames per second across multiple tiers has drawn attention.
To run Fable at its minimum settings, players will need either an Intel i7 6850K or an AMD Ryzen 5 2600 processor. This is to be paired with a graphics card such as the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5050, RTX 2060, AMD Radeon RX 6600, or Intel A580. These minimum requirements are set to deliver 1080p resolution at 30 fps. Considering the RTX 2060 was a mid-range card from 2019 and the specified CPUs are nearly a decade old, these requirements are considered reasonably undemanding, provided the 30 fps performance is acceptable.
For recommended settings, which aim for medium graphical fidelity, the specifications increase. Players will require an Intel Core i5 11600KF or AMD Ryzen 5 5600 CPU, coupled with either an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060, RTX 3060 Ti, AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT, or RX 7600 XT. These recommended specs aim for 1440p at 30 fps or 1200p at 60 fps. Notably, no Intel GPU is mentioned for the recommended tier.
Both minimum and recommended configurations mandate 135 GB of storage space, and an SSD is required for all installations. Memory requirements stand at 12 GB for minimum and 16 GB for recommended settings.
An interesting point of note is the absence of any mention regarding upscaling technology in the published system requirements. This is particularly noteworthy as Forza Horizon 6, another title from developer Playground Games, explicitly stated that its requirements did not account for upscaling. The inclusion of upscaling has become more common in system requirements, with titles like The Blood of Dawnwalker previously adjusting their stated needs after incorporating upscaling options. The lack of such a declaration for Fable leaves speculation about whether these performance targets are achievable without such technologies.
While these requirements are subject to change as the game's launch approaches, they offer a preliminary indication of the hardware demands for Fable. The 12 GB RAM requirement is seen as manageable, but the 135 GB storage footprint might necessitate considerable free space on players' SSDs.
