Bethesda Game Studios has issued a notice to players of Fallout 4, urging them to log into their game saves or manually save their mod load orders. This advisory precedes an upcoming patch that will focus on "general Creations improvements." The update is scheduled to release on Tuesday, August 18.

This caution comes after previous updates to Fallout 4 have introduced complications for modded installations. The studio's 2024 "next gen" update, for instance, was met with issues that necessitated a rollback via a "Downgrader Tool." A subsequent update a year later also caused unexpected problems for players. Bethesda's advice suggests that players should save their load order so they can re-download their entire Creations list once the new patch is live.

Bethesda also confirmed that a new update for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is in development, though specific details will be shared at a later date. Given the studio's history with mod-breaking patches in both titles, players of Skyrim are also advised to back up their game saves as a precautionary measure.

The announcement has generated a mixed response online, with some players expressing gratitude for continued support of older titles, while others voice concerns about potential mod conflicts and reiterate calls for a focus on upcoming projects like The Elder Scrolls VI.
