Square Enix has announced that service for Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis will end on October 6, 2026. The mobile title, which launched in 2023, will have been operational for just over three years.

In an official notice, the company stated, "We understand that this news may be disappointing, and we sincerely apologize for the abrupt nature of this announcement." Square Enix explained that despite efforts to provide a good player experience since the game's release, it has become clear that "it will be difficult to continue doing so."

Players will be able to use the in-game currency, Red Crystals, until the end of service. However, only residents of Taiwan will be eligible for refunds on any unused Red Crystals purchased with real-world money.

Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis served as a separate remake project, distinct from the main-line remake trilogy. It aimed to bring together all mainline and spin-off narratives from the extended Final Fantasy 7 universe, including stories from Dirge of Cerberus and Advent Children, allowing players to experience the entirety of the Compilation of Final Fantasy 7 in one application. The only part of the compilation yet to be adapted was the mobile title Before Crisis, which itself was shut down in 2018.

Coinciding with the service end announcement, producer Shoichi Ichikawa revealed that Before Crisis will finally be integrated into Ever Crisis. This new story content will be released in three parts between July and August. This move follows a pattern of Square Enix shutting down mobile titles, including Nier Reincarnation in 2024, Final Fantasy Brave Exvius and Dragon Quest of the Stars in 2025. Brave Exvius is slated to receive a console port later this year as Final Fantasy Resonance. While Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent was also adapted into a console game, there has been no similar announcement for Nier Reincarnation.
