The physical edition of Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth, the upcoming finale to the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, will require players to download additional game data via an internet connection to be playable. This marks a departure from the previous installments in the series, which offered fully playable physical releases on multi-disc cases.
Director Naoki Hamaguchi announced the physical release during a recent Final Fantasy 14 Fan Fest in Berlin, confirming an April 8, 2027, release date. Unlike the physical versions of Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, which contained all necessary game data across multiple discs, Rebirth's physical edition will ship with the game on a single disc but will necessitate an online download to access the full game. Square Enix has confirmed that a Game-Key card will be included with the physical Nintendo Switch 2 version.
This approach differs from some modern physical releases that only include a digital redemption code, though it represents a shift from Square Enix's own past practices for the Remake trilogy. The company has previously provided complete physical editions for the earlier games in the series.
Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth will be available on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. Several editions of the game are available for purchase.
The Standard Edition is priced at $69.99. Physical copies at select retailers will include a Magic: The Gathering card, while Amazon pre-orders will receive a folded poster.
The Deluxe Edition costs $99.99 and includes a mini-soundtrack, artbook, and steelbook case. The digital Premium Edition, at the same price, adds the Story Expansion Pass and 24-hour early access.
For $109.99, the Premium Plus Edition includes all Premium Edition contents along with a digital soundtrack, artbook, and in-game items.
A Final Fantasy 7 Remake Series Trilogy Edition is available for $84.99 for those who digitally pre-order, granting immediate access to Remake and Rebirth.
The most comprehensive offering is the physical Collector's Edition, exclusively available from the Square Enix store for $349.99. This edition bundles the Deluxe Edition contents, the Story Expansion Pass, exclusive in-game items, and a premium statue featuring Cloud, Zack, and Sephiroth.
