Sales for Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth have significantly surpassed expectations, according to trilogy director Naoki Hamaguchi. The boost in performance is attributed, in part, to the growing anticipation for the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, which was revealed at Summer Game Fest 2026.
Hamaguchi explained that the sales of earlier titles in the trilogy have consistently risen with each subsequent announcement and reveal. He noted that as Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth generated buzz, sales for Final Fantasy 7 Remake saw an increase, and a similar trend is expected as Final Fantasy 7 Revelation garners more attention. While specific sales figures remain confidential due to Square Enix's investor relations policy, Hamaguchi confirmed that both games are "performing even better than most people probably imagine."
The growing importance of the PC market, particularly in simplified Chinese-speaking regions, has also contributed to the trilogy's success. Hamaguchi highlighted that the simplified Chinese PC market has grown to a level comparable to the historically strong English-speaking PC market.
Player feedback has also played a role in shaping the development of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. Hamaguchi indicated that adjustments are being made to minigames, including making them skippable, and that rewards are being modified based on community responses to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. He emphasized the importance of continuously listening to player feedback to improve gameplay and minimize frustrations. Hamaguchi views the passionate discussions and debates among fans regarding minigames, story elements, and character relationships as a testament to the value they place on these aspects of the Final Fantasy 7 universe.
Furthermore, Hamaguchi noted that an impressive retention rate of over 90 percent of the staff from Final Fantasy 7 Remake has carried over to the development of Revelation. This continuity, he suggested, is a reflection of both the strength of the Final Fantasy 7 intellectual property and the high expectations from a dedicated fanbase.
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is slated for release in spring 2027. Platforms confirmed for the title include Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Publisher Square Enix has not yet determined whether the game will be released on physical discs.
