The title for the third installment of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake saga has been revealed as "Revelation." While the game's central theme is stated to be "Resolve," the choice of subtitle has sparked discussion among fans. Game director Naoki Hamaguchi addressed this in a recent interview, explaining that the thematic connection is not as direct as the shared initial letter might suggest.
Hamaguchi elaborated that the core theme of "Resolve" can be interpreted in multiple ways, including the determination of the player characters as they approach the final battles. He also noted that player experiences might vary due to potential story alterations, influencing their perception of this resolve. When asked why the subtitle wasn't simply "Resolve," Hamaguchi stated that "Resolve" was never a candidate for the title. The team ultimately selected "Revelation" because it best represented the intended narrative of the third installment.
The development team maintained secrecy around the title for an extended period, with only a small group of individuals privy to the information until its public reveal. This approach was taken to carefully manage the announcement.
Despite the biblical connotations the name "Revelation" might evoke, Hamaguchi clarified that the title's primary significance lies in its promise to address and resolve the unanswered questions fans have had since the initial Remake and Rebirth installments. The subtitle serves as a message that the game will provide all the necessary answers and conclude the overarching narrative. Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is slated for release in spring 2027.
