Datamining efforts on the Epic Games Store have revealed potential post-release content for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, the anticipated final installment of Square Enix's Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy. These discoveries lend credence to director Naoki Hamaguchi's earlier statements regarding the possibility of story expansions for the game.

The data, identified through third-party tracking tools like EpicDB, includes listings for a "Story Expansion Pass" and nine additional pieces of DLC. While Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth each received minor additions such as extra summons and cosmetic items, only the original Remake saw substantial story content post-release with "Episode Intermission."

Hamaguchi had previously stated that Rebirth would forgo a major story expansion to expedite the development of Revelation. However, following Revelation's official reveal at Summer Game Fest, he indicated that story expansions are now a consideration for the trilogy's conclusion, contingent on fan demand. The recent datamine suggests that demand may already be a factor in these plans.

Fans have expressed a particular desire for an expansion focusing on the character Vincent Valentine. Hamaguchi has also teased that any potential story expansions for Revelation could delve into the broader Final Fantasy 7 universe, potentially revisiting elements from the spin-off game Dirge of Cerberus, which stars Valentine, or the animated film Advent Children. The current remake trilogy already incorporates connections to the wider Final Fantasy 7 lore.

Additionally, there are theories that characters from the prequel title Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 will appear in Revelation, especially given the protagonist of Crisis Core Reunion, Zack Fair, plays a significant role in both Remake and Rebirth and his story is expected to continue. Expansions could also serve to resolve any lingering plot threads from Revelation's base game.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is slated for release in spring 2027 across Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
