Square Enix has revealed new details about Final Fantasy Resonance, an upcoming HD-2D reimagining of its mobile title Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius. The game, scheduled for release in October, draws from the first season of the original mobile game, exploring its world, characters, gameplay mechanics, and extensive content.

The narrative unfolds across distinct regions, including the formidable military nation of Zoldaad, which appears to be a central power due to its control over the Fire Crystal and its development of airships and magitek. Contrasting Zoldaad is the city of Mysidia, a legendary hub for powerful magic-wielders and home to the Ice Crystal. The Zoldaad Empire is depicted as an expanding force, with defectors among its ranks.

Players will encounter familiar characters from the mobile game, such as Rain, Laswell, Fina, Jake, and Lid. The Mysidian sage Sakura is also slated to appear. The primary antagonists are the Sworn Six of Paladia, known as the Veritas, each representing an element. Notable among them are the brutal Veritas of Flame, the honorable Veritas of Earth, and the volatile Veritas of Light.

At its core, Final Fantasy Resonance features classic turn-based RPG combat, incorporating strategic elements and powerful Limit Break attacks. A key gameplay feature is the "Visions" system, which allows players to summon legendary Final Fantasy heroes to fight alongside their party. These Visions can be utilized for their unique magic and abilities, with stronger bonds unlocking more skills. Achieving a "Resonance" by staggering all enemies in a single turn triggers a devastating attack from a Vision, accompanied by CG animation. Enhancing Visions requires the rare material Magicite, forcing players to make strategic choices about which legendary allies to empower.

Beyond the established Final Fantasy heroes, Resonance will also feature original characters from Brave Exvius, including Amelia, a gun-wielding maid; Camille, a mercenary specializing in water and earth attacks; Wilhelm, an imperial general serving as a tank; Victoria, a black mage wielding dark magic; and Ayaka, a white mage focused on support and healing. The roster of recruitable heroes from past Final Fantasy titles includes Firion (Final Fantasy I), Onion Knight (Final Fantasy III), Vaan (Final Fantasy XII), Lightning (Final Fantasy XIII), Noctis (Final Fantasy XV), and Clive Rosfield (Final Fantasy XVI).

In addition to Visions, players can summon powerful Espers for temporary combat assistance. These include Carbuncle, who casts Reflect; Leviathan, delivering water damage with Tsunami; Odin, capable of dealing non-elemental damage and potentially instant-killing enemies; and Bahamut, unleashing the signature Megaflare attack. For players aiming for complete-game mastery, Final Fantasy Resonance offers significant post-game challenges. The game teases a battle against the enigmatic swordsman Gilgamesh. A particularly demanding encounter is the fight against Ultima Weapon, a recurring superboss in the Final Fantasy series that requires meticulous preparation to overcome. Final Fantasy Resonance is set to launch for PC and consoles on October 22.
