Final Fantasy XIV is set to launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 this August, bringing the acclaimed MMORPG to a new platform alongside a substantial storage requirement. The US eShop indicates that the game will necessitate 117.2 GB of space at launch, positioning it as one of the Switch 2's most storage-intensive titles.

This ambitious port was initially announced in April and will be available on August 4. Players on the Switch 2 will require a separate monthly subscription for Final Fantasy XIV, even if they are utilizing the same account as other platforms. However, the game will not necessitate the standard Nintendo Switch Online membership typically required for online multiplayer games.

Square Enix is also offering a promotional discount for players willing to maintain subscriptions on multiple platforms. Those subscribing to Final Fantasy XIV on other versions will receive a 50 percent discount on the Switch 2 subscription fee. To further entice new players, the Switch 2 version will include the game's extensive free trial, which encompasses a significant portion of its content.

Alongside the Switch 2 port details, Square Enix revealed further information about the upcoming expansion, "Evercold." The expansion, which marks the beginning of the Goddless Realms Saga story arc, received a new five-minute extended teaser trailer during Fan Festival 2026 in Berlin. The trailer showcased new story elements and introduced the Bastion, a new tank class wielding a pair of greatshields known as skyltborg. "Evercold" is slated for release in early 2027.

Additional announcements made during the event included an "Evangelion 'Ghosts of Desire'" collaboration, the introduction of a new data center system designed to enhance connectivity and player matching within the same region, and a planned crossover event with the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy.
