A local card shop in Alberta, Canada, has shared images and video of what is believed to be the first-ever "gold god pack" pulled from the new Pokémon Trading Card Game set, Pitch Black. The unprecedented find has generated widespread excitement and disbelief within the Pokémon TCG community.
A "god pack" is a fan term for an exceptionally rare and valuable pack, and this particular find is even more extraordinary due to its contents: ten Mega Darkrai Ex cards, each featuring a distinct golden coloration. These are classified as Mega Hyper Rare cards, which are notoriously difficult to obtain. For comparison, the pull rate for a single Mega Hyper Rare card in the recent Perfect Order set was estimated at approximately 1 in 1786 packs, or 0.06%.
The Pitch Black set is not yet officially released, with a general sale date of July 17. However, many card shops have begun hosting pre-release events that provide attendees with early access to packs. It was at one such event that the young collector reportedly made this historic pull.
Initial reactions to the news were skeptical, with many fans suggesting the images might be AI-generated or digitally altered. The improbability of pulling a single golden card is immense, let alone an entire pack composed solely of them, especially before the set's wide release.
However, footage later emerged showing the young collector surrounded by opened packs, carefully arranging the ten golden Mega Darkrai Ex cards. Each of these cards is currently valued at around $750 ungraded, with the potential to reach up to $3,465 each if authenticated and graded in good condition by services like PSA.
Fans continue to debate the legitimacy of the pull, with some pointing out the logistical challenges of acquiring so many rare cards before a set is widely available or the cost associated with purchasing them from resellers. Current listings on Price Charting show only 21 total available for the Mega Darkrai Ex card.
Jordi Stewart, who appears to be related to the child, shared on Facebook that the discovery led to significant excitement from both children and adults. "His Birthday week is starting off on the right foot that’s for sure," Stewart wrote, detailing that the pack was an additional reward for the child's second-place finish in his age group at the pre-release event.
