Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4, subtitled "Override," has launched, transporting players into a world heavily influenced by classic video games. This season brings new map locations, weapons, and items, drawing inspiration from franchises such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Mega Man, and Pac-Man. A notable new mechanic involves "override consoles," large structures scattered across the map that allow the first player to interact with them to alter gameplay for the entire lobby.

Map and Point of Interest Updates

The "Override" season introduces three major new points of interest (POIs) to the Fortnite map, alongside several smaller ones. These include "Green Hill Zone," "Reality's Reign," and "Stone Sanctum." Unlike previous seasons, minor POIs will not be automatically revealed on the map; players must discover them through exploration. Some, like the Pac-Man and Blinky islands, are easily spotted, while others, such as the override consoles and car washes, are more discreet.

New Weapons and Items

Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 features a mix of new and unvaulted weaponry and utility items. At the start of the season, two new weapons are available: "Midas' Masterpiece," a high-damage pistol with limited ammunition, and the "8-Bit Shotgun," an automatic shotgun that incorporates a scoring system. Players who achieve 100,000 points with the 8-Bit Shotgun can unlock a special effect. Mega Man's "Mega Buster" cannon also joins the arsenal, offering charged shots and explosive projectiles. Two more weapons, "Kingdom Key" and "Rebecca's Guns," are slated to arrive later in the season.

The following weapons have been unvaulted: Pump Shotgun, Assault Rifle, Ranger Assault Rifle, Drum Gun, Minigun (Loot Hack), Tactical Pistol, Dual Pistols (Loot Hack), and Oni Shotgun (Loot Hack).

Three new items are available from the season's launch: "Sonic Power Sneakers," which grant enhanced speed and a midair spin attack; the "1-Up Token," a respawn item that allows players to return with their inventory after elimination; and the "God Mode Llama," a consumable that transforms the user into an "unstoppable wrecking ball." Additionally, the "Flare Gun," "Bass Boost" (Loot Hack), and "Chug Splash" (Loot Hack) have been unvaulted.

Gizmos and Gameplay Mechanics

Four new gizmos are also introduced: the "Cheat Code Locator" to find nearby cheat codes, the "Extraction Accelerator" to silently summon an extraction crate, the "Llama Supply Drop" to call in a themed supply drop, and the "Spicy Taco," a consumable that provides healing and buffs to speed and stamina, with a special "taco time party" effect for squads.

Players logging into "Override" will notice an "admin panel" in the top right corner, allowing them to input lobby hack codes for rewards such as XP, sprites, and cosmetics. The central "Override" mechanic is activated at the aforementioned override consoles. These allow the first player to trigger changes that affect the entire lobby, such as increased speed, enhanced XP gain, or infinite stamina, directly tying into the season's video game theme.

Sprites are returning this season, though players cannot use those from Chapter 7 Season 3. A new collection of Sprites will be available. "Sprite dust" can be used in the Override menu to add new items to the loot pool that do not regularly drop until unlocked, and can also increase their drop rates from chests. Players can also find "cheat codes" on the map, which look like glitched walls with arrow keys; inputting the displayed code rewards a free Sprite.
