Playground Games has officially confirmed that Forza Horizon 6 is still on track for a PlayStation 5 release this year, despite the absence of a firm launch date. The developer shared the update in a post, seeking to quell rumors of a potential delay for the highly anticipated racing title.

"If you’re planning your trip to Discover Japan on PlayStation 5, stay tuned!" Playground stated. "Forza Horizon 6 will be releasing on PS5 later this year, and you can add the game to your Wishlist on the PlayStation Store to be notified of availability." The notes indicate the game's setting will be Japan.

While September and October boast major releases such as Marvel's Wolverine and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, the automotive racing genre has distinct audiences. However, a potential November launch for Forza Horizon 6 on PS5 could present significant competition, particularly with the anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto 6. The latter is expected to feature extensive car customization and racing elements, which might draw players away from Forza. A December release remains a possibility, though the immense hype surrounding Grand Theft Auto 6 is likely to persist through the holiday season.

Forza Horizon 5 achieved considerable success on PlayStation platforms, even with a delayed launch. Developers are working against the clock to build anticipation for this new iteration on the PS5. Forza Horizon 6 has been recognized as a major title of 2026, a year noted for its robust gaming releases. The game has received substantial critical acclaim, including a perfect 10/10 score from IGN. "Technically, Forza Horizon 6 has not skipped a beat, and it runs like a titan," IGN's review stated. "Aesthetically, it’s the best-looking and best-sounding game Playground has produced to date, set in the most wonderfully realised map it’s ever crafted – full of dense, authentic details and stunning driving roads. It’s rewarding to explore, the campaign is well-paced with a great payoff, and I simply cannot stop playing."
