Hidetaka Miyazaki, the president of FromSoftware, has indicated that the acclaimed studio has new, unannounced projects in the works. In a statement to Japanese gaming site Denfaminico Gamer, translated via machine translation, Miyazaki largely avoided commentary on the recent controversy surrounding its parent company, Kadokawa, but did touch upon the developer's creative freedom.
Miyazaki stated that he was not in a position to discuss the actions of activist investors at Kadokawa. However, he expressed general satisfaction with the development environment provided by the anime publishing giant, asserting that FromSoftware is "able to freely create the games we want to make without excessive interference." He emphasized the importance of maintaining this environment, allowing the team to "concentrate solely on game development as much as possible."
The situation at Kadokawa involves Hong Kong-based hedge fund Oasis Management, which acquired a majority stake and is advocating for the removal of the current CEO. Oasis has reportedly been critical of Kadokawa's decision to allow FromSoftware to partner with third-party publishers like Bandai Namco, rather than publishing its titles through Kadokawa itself.
Miyazaki concluded his statement with a message to fans, promising that FromSoftware will "continue to work harder than ever to create truly valuable games." He urged players to "look forward to our upcoming titles, both those already announced and those yet to be announced."
Currently, FromSoftware's only officially announced upcoming project is Duskbloods, a multiplayer title slated for the Nintendo Switch 2. However, Miyazaki's remarks suggest that other unrevealed games are also progressing behind the scenes.
