Skybound has announced a surprise comic book crossover between the G.I. Joe and Tomb Raider franchises, slated for release in 2026. The collaboration will manifest as a five-issue limited series titled G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero/Tomb Raider, with the first issue scheduled to launch in October 2026.
The crossover event is set to build upon Lara Croft's recent surprise cameo in G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #330. The new series will see Lara Croft teaming up with G.I. Joe's Shipwreck and a unit of Joes. Their mission will be to pursue a long-lost treasure on Cobra Island, a goal that also attracts the attention of Cobra operatives The Baroness and Destro.
The creative team for G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero/Tomb Raider includes writer Kyle Higgins, known for his work on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, and artist Elena Casagrande, who previously drew Black Widow. The series will also feature colors by Alex Guimarães and lettering by Pat Brosseau.
Kyle Higgins expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "Tomb Raider meets G.I. JOE. Lost artifact, a Destro plot, and a joint infiltration mission to Cobra Island-- the appeal of a story like this should be obvious." He added that he was excited to work with both brands and that the series would include "some really fun swings" and "some deep cuts for G.I. JOE fans!"
Elena Casagrande shared her excitement about drawing Lara Croft, calling it "one of the top myths in my life." She anticipates an "epic" adventure as Croft and the G.I. JOE team solve mysteries on Cobra Island.
In addition to the comic series, Hasbro is also introducing Lara Croft to its G.I. Joe Classified action figure line. Further details on the figure are expected.
G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero/Tomb Raider #1 is scheduled for release on October 7, 2026. Preorders are available through local comic shops.
