A new gameplay trailer for Game of Thrones: War for Westeros has debuted during Gamescom Opening Night Live, offering the first look at the real-time strategy title since its reveal over a year ago. The game, set in George R.R. Martin's popular fantasy world, is slated for an early 2027 release.

War for Westeros allows players to command various factions and iconic characters from the Game of Thrones universe. Commanders can take control of figures such as Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, Jamie Lannister, Robb Stark, Tywin Lannister, and the Night King, with character likenesses drawn from the HBO series. Players will choose one of four factions: House Stark, House Lannister, House Targaryen, or the White Walkers. Each faction is designed to offer unique strategies, featuring distinct armies, buildings, mechanics, and playstyles that reflect their identity within the Game of Thrones narrative.

Gameplay involves training units, gathering resources, constructing buildings, and capturing territory from opposing forces. The armies can consist of infantry, cavalry, siege engines, and more fantastical units like giants and dragons. Players have the option to engage in a solo campaign or compete against others in online multiplayer matches.

Originally scheduled for a 2026 release, Game of Thrones: War for Westeros has been delayed and is now expected to launch in early 2027. The game will be available for PC via Steam.
