Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands, widely considered the best entry in the series, has received a substantial free update dubbed 'Last Rites' as part of the franchise's 25th-anniversary celebration. The update introduces a new mission arc featuring a villain inspired by local folklore named La Llorona, alongside a significant visual enhancement for current-generation consoles, allowing the game to be played in 4K at 60 frames per second. Players who own the game on previous platforms will automatically gain access to these improvements via an update.

The 'Last Rites' update also marks the return of the popular Predator crossover mission, which originally debuted in 2017 and was later delisted in 2020. This revival offers players another chance to engage with the iconic extraterrestrial hunter.

Ubisoft has also added hundreds of new, free cosmetic customization options to Wildlands. These include previously unreleased and formerly gated content, providing players with more ways to personalize their characters. PlayStation Plus subscribers can unlock exclusive cosmetics inspired by the new antagonist, La Llorona.
In conjunction with the update, both Ghost Recon Wildlands and its 2019 sequel, Ghost Recon Breakpoint, are available to play for free throughout the weekend for PlayStation Plus subscribers. Following this free-to-play period, both titles, along with others in the series, will be discounted by up to 95% for a limited time. An exception is Ghost Recon Future Soldier, which is currently available for free on PC through Ubisoft Connect for one week.
While Breakpoint faced a mixed reception at launch due to design choices like a gear-score system, it has seen improvements through subsequent updates. Nevertheless, Wildlands is still regarded as the series' high point. Breakpoint is also set to receive an anniversary "bundle" in September.

Looking toward the future of the franchise, Ubisoft has announced that a new Ghost Recon game is in development. Players interested in contributing to its creation can join the new Ghost Recon Insider Program, which grants access to closed playtests and an opportunity to influence the sequel's development. Specific details regarding the new game's title have not yet been revealed.
