Sony Santa Monica Studios has revealed that God of War Laufey, a new installment in the acclaimed series, is set to launch on February 16, 2027. The announcement came during PlayStation's Summer State of Play event, which featured approximately 23 minutes of gameplay footage.

The game centers on Laufey, Kratos's wife and Atreus's mother, exploring her story after her death and her arrival in the Everywhen, the afterlife realm within the game's mythology. According to the game's description, Laufey's journey is accompanied by her talking gelatinous cube and sword ribbon companions. This narrative approach marks a departure for the God of War series, delving into a character's post-mortem existence.

While the setting of the Everywhen suggests a narrative that may occur concurrently with the events of God of War (2018), its exact placement on the series' timeline remains unclear. The title will be available exclusively on PlayStation 5.
