Sony has announced that God of War Laufey, the next PlayStation 5 exclusive from Santa Monica Studio, will launch on February 16, 2027. This date places the action-adventure title in a highly competitive release window, with other notable games like Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, Persona 4 Revival, and Fable all slated for February 2027. Metro 2039 is also expected to release within the same month.

The impending release of God of War Laufey was revealed during a San Diego Comic-Con 2026 panel. The announcement follows speculation about the game's proximity to launch, partly fueled by the confirmation of a physical disc version. This is significant as Sony has stated that all games shipping from January 2028 onward will be digital-only.

Franchise director Cory Barlog also confirmed during the panel that a second God of War game is already in development, this one focusing on Kratos and intended to directly tie into the events of Laufey. While players anticipate Laufey will delve into existing mysteries from the 2018 reboot, it is also expected to introduce new narrative threads. The existence of a separate Kratos-centric game suggests that Santa Monica Studio may not have felt pressured to heavily feature Kratos in Laufey's adventure, though the release date for this follow-up title remains unannounced.
