Production on Amazon MGM and Sony Pictures' live-action God of War series has been temporarily halted after star Ryan Hurst, who plays Kratos, sustained a severe bicep tear while filming a stunt. The injury is reportedly severe enough to require surgery, impacting Hurst's ability to perform and potentially pushing back the series' production schedule.

Sources indicate that the recovery period could extend, with some speculation suggesting filming might be delayed until 2027, depending on the actor's healing process. This incident marks another disruption for the adaptation, which previously saw showrunner Rafe Judkins depart in 2024. Ronald D. Moore was later brought on to lead the series.

The God of War adaptation is slated to stream on Prime Video, though a release date has not yet been announced. Earlier this year, the first images of Ryan Hurst as Kratos and Callum Vinson as Atreus were released, alongside news that Ed Skrein would portray Baldur.

The cast also includes a notable ensemble of actors, with Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Max Parker as Heimdall, and Teresa Palmer as Sif. Danny Woodburn and Jeff Gulka are set to appear as Brok and Sindri, respectively. Alastair Duncan, who voiced and provided motion capture for Mimir in the games, is reprising his role for the show. Hurst himself previously voiced Thor in the game God of War: Ragnarok.

While the live-action series navigates this production setback, fans can anticipate the release of God of War Laufey, a separate spinoff title focusing on Kratos's second wife.
