Grand Theft Auto 6 is on track to become a monumental commercial success for Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive, according to a recent analysis from gaming market insights firm Newzoo. The report anticipates that the highly anticipated sequel will generate between $3.3 billion and $5.2 billion in cumulative global sales by the end of its launch week.

Newzoo's most conservative estimate suggests Grand Theft Auto 6 will sell approximately 37 million units during its debut week, a figure the firm describes as "an exceptional result." The analysis further predicts that sales could reach closer to $4.5 billion, with an estimated 51 million units sold within the same timeframe.

Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto 6 commenced on June 25. Newzoo estimates that the game rapidly secured $180 million in digital sales across the U.S., U.K., France, Italy, Germany, and Spain alone. The firm has dismissed earlier media reports claiming GTA 6 amassed $1 billion in sales within its first hour as "absurd," stating that "Nothing ever has and nothing ever will." Nevertheless, Newzoo acknowledges that GTA 6's initial pre-order performance represents "the strongest opening to a pre-order campaign ever recorded in our dataset."

This strong pre-order activity suggests that the vast player base of Grand Theft Auto 5, which stands at over 230 million players, is likely to embrace the sequel enthusiastically.

Grand Theft Auto 5 itself set significant sales records upon its release in 2013, achieving over $800 million in first-day sales worldwide and surpassing $1 billion within three days. At the time of its initial launch, Take-Two shipped nearly 29 million copies in the first month. GTA 5 was initially available on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 before being ported to Windows PC and subsequent console generations.

Rockstar Games officially unveiled Grand Theft Auto 6 in 2023, with an initial release window set for 2025. Following a series of delays and gameplay reveals, the developer has targeted a late 2026 release. Rockstar has since confirmed that GTA 6 will be a digital-only release, along with its official pricing and pre-order details. The studio has also indicated that the new Grand Theft Auto will be a single-player experience, though no details have been provided regarding plans for Grand Theft Auto Online post-launch.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is slated for release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. A PC version has not yet been announced.
