The recent 30-minute gameplay reveal for Grand Theft Auto 6 has confirmed the return of a character from a previous installment, marking the first such instance for Rockstar's upcoming title. This character, Valentina, first appeared in Grand Theft Auto Online.
During the extended look trailer for GTA 6, players witness protagonists Jason and Lucia working as bodyguards. The woman who hires them, referred to as "Val" by Lucia, is later addressed as "Tina" by a wealthy client. This apparent discrepancy in names is explained by the character's full name being Valentina, who also served as a coordinator for wealthy individuals in Grand Theft Auto Online. As noted by GTA Wiki and others, this is the same Valentina first introduced in GTA Online's Money Fronts update, released in 2025.
Evidence suggesting these are the same characters includes Valentina's attire and distinctive facial moles, which are consistent across both game appearances. Although the graphical fidelity in GTA 6 presents a more realistic and detailed version of Valentina compared to her appearance in GTA Online, which was developed on older technology, the shared name, general appearance, and similar role strongly indicate her return. In GTA Online, Valentina's role was brief; she appeared in a cutscene to introduce the player's character to a client named Mr. Faber before departing San Andreas the following day.
While Valentina is the first GTA Online character officially confirmed for GTA 6, some speculation arose around a character resembling Phil Cassidy from earlier GTA titles, seen in GTA 6's second trailer. However, Rockstar maintains separate universes for its games, meaning characters from the 2D or 3D eras do not directly carry over to the HD era, where GTA 6 is set. Characters like radio host Lazlow exist across different universes but are treated as distinct individuals with similar traits. Therefore, the appearance of a Phil Cassidy look-alike does not count as a returning character in the same vein as Valentina.
It is anticipated that Valentina will not be the sole returning character in Grand Theft Auto 6. Rockstar has a precedent for including familiar faces, as seen with characters like Packie and Brucie appearing in both Grand Theft Auto 5 and its online component. It is plausible that other characters from GTA 4 and GTA 5 may make cameo appearances or have more significant roles in GTA 6's narrative. The full extent of returning characters will be revealed upon the game's launch in November.
