Grand Theft Auto 6 is seeing a notable trend in its pre-order sales, with more players opting for the $100 Ultimate Edition over the standard $80 version, according to Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar Games' parent company. Zelnick suggested in a CNBC interview that this preference for the premium edition is likely driven by the game's most dedicated fans who are pre-ordering at this early stage.
Zelnick also commented on the game's pricing strategy, which has been a subject of discussion since pre-orders began. He acknowledged that while retailers have the autonomy to set their own prices and offer discounts, Take-Two aims to maintain its pricing for extended periods. He drew a parallel to Grand Theft Auto 5, noting that its pricing remained consistent for a significant duration, suggesting that substantial discounts on Grand Theft Auto 6 in the near future are unlikely. Zelnick defended the game's price, stating to IGN that it reflects the value proposition and that Rockstar Games is known for exceeding expectations, making the current price a "bargain."
The absence of a physical disc in the initial release has also been a point of contention. Zelnick addressed this controversy, indicating that a true physical release post-launch is not entirely out of the question. However, he does not anticipate the lack of a disc to negatively impact sales.
Fans are anticipating an extended first look at Grand Theft Auto 6, scheduled to debut on Netflix later this month, followed by releases on YouTube and other social media platforms on August 27th. Zelnick has expressed enthusiasm for this upcoming reveal, though details remain scarce. While some players have voiced frustration over the initial paywall for the deep dive, the content will become universally accessible on YouTube six hours after its Netflix debut.
