Grand Theft Auto VI is reportedly targeting a 30 frames-per-second frame rate for its console release, with uncertainty surrounding the availability of a higher 60 FPS performance mode at launch. According to information shared by Davy Jones of Flow Games and reported by GamesRadar+, Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson stated that the game will run at 30 FPS.

Nelson indicated that the technical team is still being consulted to determine if a 60 FPS option will be available either at launch or in a future update. Details regarding resolution and other technical features, such as ray tracing, were also noted as not yet finalized. The visual presentation in the recently released extended look trailer has been described as luxurious, suggesting a demanding experience for current-generation hardware. This 30 FPS target aligns with the series' history, as Grand Theft Auto V also ran at 30 FPS on the base PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The impact of this frame rate target on platforms like the Xbox Series S and potential enhancements for the PlayStation 5 Pro remain unclear. Industry trends have increasingly favored optional Performance and Quality modes that offer adjustable frame rates, with some developers making last-minute changes to meet player expectations for smoother gameplay.

The recent showcase of Grand Theft Auto VI revealed several new gameplay systems, including modifications to the Wanted system, carjacking mechanics, and a new romance system. The game is also set to feature a vast open world with numerous in-game activities. This extensive development follows a period of significant investment and also coincides with ongoing employment tribunals concerning Rockstar North employees who were recently terminated, with allegations of union-busting.
