New footage and details pertaining to Rockstar Games' highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 have reportedly surfaced online. The veracity of the information remains unconfirmed, but Rockstar's alleged involvement in issuing DMCA takedown requests suggests a potential legitimacy to at least some of the leaked content.
The individual or group responsible for the leak, operating under the alias Cyberleek, has purportedly issued a set of demands, referred to as "commandments," to Rockstar and other game publishers. These demands, shared on social media, include prohibitions against digital preorders, "fake" single-player downloadable content, and a call to preserve single-player content. The leaker further warned that these commandments represent a minimum standard and threatened further disclosures if they are not adhered to.
One leaked video clip, which is reportedly becoming scarce online, appears to show a character named Jason engaged in a basketball minigame, offering a glimpse of the game's modified user interface and tutorial. Some viewers have speculated that this footage may originate from an early build of the game.
A second video reportedly showcases driving gameplay, with the character Jason crashing into vehicles and subsequently engaging in a fight with a delivery driver. The aftermath of this altercation apparently attracts law enforcement attention, demonstrating the game's combat engine and police interaction.
Alongside the video content, a map of GTA 6's setting, Leonida, was also part of the leak. It is currently unclear whether this map is an official Rockstar creation or a fan-made representation.
This leak follows just over a week before Grand Theft Auto 6 is slated for an extended preview event on Netflix, scheduled for August 27. The game is officially set for release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. While physical copies are expected to contain only codes, Take-Two has not completely dismissed the possibility of a disc-based release.
