Recent leaks from Grand Theft Auto 6 have not only provided extensive details about Rockstar Games' highly anticipated title but have also seemingly included a jab at Naughty Dog's recent development cycle. Among the plethora of in-game environmental details uncovered in the leaks is a collection of video game covers, one of which bears a striking resemblance to Naughty Dog's The Last of Us series.
The parody appears in the form of a game cover for "We Came Together: 1, 2, & 3 Remasters of the Remixes." The title and visual styling, including a prominent orange accent, are strongly reminiscent of The Last of Us logo. This satirical nod is speculated to stem from Naughty Dog's comparatively sparse output of new titles during the PlayStation 5 generation.
While Naughty Dog has been working on its upcoming game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, the studio has largely focused on remasters and ports of its existing franchises for the PS5. This includes updated versions of the Uncharted series and The Last of Us. The development of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is reportedly intensive, with some reports suggesting a potential mid-2027 release. If true, this would mark Naughty Dog's first entirely new intellectual property or a new entry not based on a remake or remaster since The Last of Us Part 2 in 2020.
The studio's resources have also been significantly allocated to projects like The Last of Us Online, a multiplayer component that was ultimately canceled after years of development. This, combined with the increased complexity and length of modern game development, has contributed to a longer gap between new Naughty Dog releases. Rumors also suggest a second team within Naughty Dog is working on The Last of Us: Part III.
Rockstar Games, meanwhile, is slated to provide an official look at GTA 6 on August 27, following the significant leak event. The identity of the GTA 6 leaker remains unknown, though former Rockstar North director Obbe Vermeij has downplayed the severity of the leaks, comparing them favorably to past controversies like the Hot Coffee scandal.
