Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 will feature a playable map three times larger than that of Red Dead Redemption 2. This information comes from a new preview of the game published in The New York Times, which draws on interviews with Rockstar developers.

Red Dead Redemption 2's map encompassed approximately 43.89 square miles in total, with a playable area of 29 square miles. Analysis suggests that Grand Theft Auto 5's map is larger at 100 square miles, though this figure includes a substantial portion of the Pacific Ocean. Walking the entirety of Red Dead Redemption 2's map is reported to take over three hours.

While Rockstar has not yet officially revealed the complete map for Grand Theft Auto 6, leaked information and fan compilations suggest a vast landmass in the fictional state of Leonida. This new setting will incorporate significant bodies of water, allowing for activities such as scuba diving, operating boats, and swimming. The game is also expected to feature an 80-hour playtime for its main story and select optional quests with narrative consequences, according to a playthrough completed by Rockstar North studio head Rob Nelson.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
