Grand Theft Auto VI's playable world will be approximately three times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2's map, according to details shared by Rockstar Games. The upcoming title returns players to Vice City, a fictionalized Miami, and its surrounding areas. A report from The New York Times, which included interviews with Rockstar developers, stated that the overall map is "three times as large as the playable area of its previous game, Red Dead Redemption 2."
Beyond the expansive map, the game is also set to feature a significant increase in animations. GTA 6 boasts "well over 600,000 animations," a substantial leap from GTA 5's 55,000 and Red Dead Redemption 2's 300,000. Rockstar North boss Aaron Garbut highlighted the meticulous detail poured into the game's environments, noting that "every room in the game, somebody thought about this." He elaborated on the effort, stating that details such as "who's sitting where, what they're drinking, the marks that are left on the table. The pictures on the wall will have the people that are in that room, with their tattoos on their arms and their family behind them" have all been individually crafted and placed.
Other confirmed details for Grand Theft Auto VI include a main game playthrough that could extend up to 80 hours, the reintroduction of six-star wanted levels, and the ability for players to pet dogs. The game is scheduled to launch on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
