Grand Theft Auto 6's map will be substantially larger than Red Dead Redemption 2's, according to information shared by Rockstar North's head of development, Rob Nelson. The entire map is said to be three times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2's, and Vice City itself is twice the size of GTA V's Los Santos.
In a preview event at Rockstar North, Nelson provided figures indicating that Vice City and its surrounding areas will be eleven times larger than Los Santos and its surroundings. This expansive scale was hinted at in the game's latest extended gameplay reveal, which featured protagonist Lucia overlooking a vast cityscape before skydiving from a skyscraper. Other revealed gameplay elements include players utilizing jet skis, kayaks, and airboats, with leaked footage also showing aerial views from airplanes above the map. Mentioned figures suggest the overall map will be twice the size of Grand Theft Auto V's map and three times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2's. The developer also stated that Vice City alone is twice the size of Los Santos, and Vice City with its surrounding suburbs is 11 times larger than Los Santos and its surroundings.
While Rockstar's maps are not always the largest in the industry, they are known for their density, polish, and interactivity. The success of Grand Theft Auto 6's massive world will depend on its ability to fill the expansive environment with engaging content and memorable moments, a challenge that could prove to be borderline overwhelming for players.
