Halo: Campaign Evolved has achieved approximately 1.2 million in sales across PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5, generating an estimated $67 million in revenue. The game has also seen around 2.1 million players through its availability on Xbox Game Pass. However, these figures represent a modest start for the remake of the original Halo campaign.

Sales data indicates a near-even split between platforms, with 42% of sales on Xbox Series X|S, 41% on PS5, and 17% on PC via Steam. While these numbers have seen some increase since launch, the overall reception has been described as lukewarm.

Rhys Elliott, head of market analysis at Alinea Analytics, identified several contributing factors. He suggests that Halo: Campaign Evolved's most significant competition, particularly on PC, comes from within its own franchise. Halo: The Master Chief Collection, a compilation that includes Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, is presented as a more compelling value proposition. For a $40 price point, The Master Chief Collection offers multiple Halo games and multiplayer options, contrasting with Halo: Campaign Evolved's $50 price for a more limited, single-campaign experience.

Elliott also noted that the Halo brand itself may have lost some of its former appeal. He stated that many Steam users already own The Master Chief Collection, which has sold an estimated 8.5 million copies on the platform. This existing ownership of a more comprehensive package makes the standalone remake a less attractive purchase for a significant portion of the PC audience.

On the PlayStation 5, Halo: Campaign Evolved has sold an estimated 544,000 copies, a figure that rivals Xbox sales despite the PS5's larger user base. Elliott attributes these sales primarily to a "nostalgia-driven crowd" in the 32-40 age range, many of whom are former Xbox 360 owners who have since transitioned to PlayStation hardware. The game has reportedly not made a significant impact on a new or existing PlayStation audience unfamiliar with the franchise's Xbox origins.

The analysis suggests that while remakes and legacy titles can perform well on PlayStation, targeting an audience that primarily engaged with games from the late PS2, Xbox 360, and early PS4 eras, Halo: Campaign Evolved did not achieve the same traction as other Xbox ports on the platform. Elliott commented that bringing The Master Chief Collection, with its robust multiplayer suite, to PlayStation would likely have yielded better results. He further speculated that a potential Halo 2 remake, especially if it includes online multiplayer and launches on PlayStation, could achieve greater commercial success.

In related news, Marcus Lehto, co-creator of Halo and designer of Master Chief, has shared some reservations about the remake while generally approving of its execution. Following the final update for Halo: Infinite in November 2025, Halo Studios has confirmed that work has commenced on new projects within the Halo universe.
