The newly released Halo: Campaign Evolved may be teasing a remake of Halo 2, according to its secret ending. Completing the campaign on Legendary difficulty unlocks a scene featuring Sergeant Johnson on a beach, who turns to the camera and states, "See you in the sequel" as the titular Halo explodes in the background, echoing a humorous moment from the original Halo: Combat Evolved.

This reveal follows previous reports from leakers suggesting that remakes for both Halo 2 and Halo 3 are in active development. A May report from Rebs Gaming indicated that these remakes would proceed regardless of the commercial performance of Halo: Campaign Evolved. While Halo 2 did receive a remaster as part of Halo: The Master Chief Collection in 2014, this would mark a full remake.

Halo: Campaign Evolved is the inaugural title from the rebranded Halo Studios. Rebs Gaming also believes the studio is working on a live-service game for the franchise. This dual approach, alternating between remakes and new titles, draws parallels to Capcom's strategy with the Resident Evil series. The success and reception of Halo: Campaign Evolved could serve as a proof of concept for the future direction of the Halo franchise.

GameSpot's review of Halo: Campaign Evolved described it as "the new gold standard for playing through the first Halo." The game officially launches on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC on July 28, though players who purchased the premium edition gained early access. Some Xbox and PC players experienced initial issues with this early access.
