Halo Studios has confirmed that Halo: Campaign Evolved will launch with a physical disc release, providing players with a tangible copy of the game. This decision aims to offer collectors items to add to their personal libraries, a move that stands in contrast to recent trends in the industry.

Senior community manager John Junyszek stated in a Halo Waypoint Q&A that purchasing the Xbox or PlayStation version of Halo: Campaign Evolved at retail will include a physical game case and disc. This clarification comes at a time when major publishers are shifting towards digital-only distribution or including download codes in physical game boxes.

Notable industry shifts include the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6, which will ship with a download code instead of a disc in its physical edition. Furthermore, PlayStation has announced plans to cease the production of new physical game discs by 2028. Microsoft's commitment to releasing future Halo titles on PlayStation platforms means these industry-wide changes directly impact the franchise.

Halo Studios' decision to maintain physical releases suggests a recognition of the value fans place on owning physical media. While an online connection will still be required for local co-op play, the inclusion of a disc ensures a physical product for consumers.

Beyond the physical release, the Q&A also revealed that Halo: Campaign Evolved will feature a Machinima freecam mode and be Steam Deck Verified. Players will also have the option to toggle friendly fire in co-op. The game is set to release on July 28 for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
