Helldivers 2 has launched its latest in-game campaign, "Frontlines of Freedom," which includes a direct parody of former U.S. President Donald Trump's proposed border wall. The new initiative sees players tasked with constructing a massive barrier in space to defend Super Earth from the "fascist" Terminid insects.
This campaign builds upon the earlier "Termicide" effort from March 2024, which inadvertently led to the emergence of new, mutated Terminid breeds and the transformation of a planet into a supercolony. The "Frontlines of Freedom" update features narration and in-game commentary that explicitly links the new construction project to Trump's rhetoric about building "the best wall" and making the galaxy "safe again."
Development studio Arrowhead Game Studios is shifting its approach to Helldivers 2's evolving narrative. Instead of weekly Major Orders, the game will now feature longer, multi-week themed campaigns designed to provide clearer stakes and consequences tied to player actions. The "Frontlines of Freedom" update is the first to implement this new structure.
Players who participate in the defense of the wall construction effort will be rewarded with the R-4 Hyena Marksman Rifle. The game's satirical approach, a nod to the film Starship Troopers, has been a long-standing characteristic, though the direct parody of current political figures and events in the "Frontlines of Freedom" campaign has prompted discussion regarding the effectiveness and potential implications of its satirical methods.
