Despite maintaining a public silence for nearly three years since its reveal, Hello Games' ambitious fantasy adventure game, Light No Fire, is considerably further along in development than previously suggested. Studio head Sean Murray stated that the team is "so far beyond the point where we should have said something by now in terms of what we have on screen, of what we're playing every day."
Murray, speaking around the tenth anniversary of No Man's Sky, acknowledged a learned lesson about discussing projects too early. He expressed strong enthusiasm for Light No Fire, calling it "such a joy to work on" and admitting he has to "bite my lip" to avoid sharing more details. He indicated that what is currently playable internally would typically warrant more public discussion from other studios.
Unveiled at The Game Awards in 2023, Light No Fire is described as a cooperative adventure set on a procedurally generated fantasy planet roughly the size of Earth. The game is inspired by classic fantasy and promises an open world experience focused on exploration, building, survival, and carving out a life together. It aims to feature immersive biomes, unique enemies, and discoverable resources.
While the team continues to support and update the decade-old space simulator No Man's Sky with new content, Murray confirmed that development on Light No Fire is also progressing. He noted a deliberate contrast in the communication strategy compared to No Man's Sky's early days, with a single trailer released for Light No Fire followed by a period of quiet. Murray suggested this approach might be preferred by players. No specific release window or further gameplay details were provided.
